WASHINGTON (AP) - Arkansas Democratic Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln are co-sponsors of an emergency bill that would help compensate farmers and related businesses for losses from weather and high costs over the past two years.
The senators say drought and steep increases in operating costs have hurt farmers, ranchers and related businesses in Arkansas. They say the bill is needed for many of the agri-businesses to keep operating.
Spikes in fuel prices and other increases have driven up production costs.
Pryor says that if President Bush gets behind the bill be believes it will pass.
