Local Men Arrested in Federal Drug Sweep

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 -- POSTED AT 10:30 P.M. CDT

JONESBORO, AR -- Local law enforcement has dealt with a meth problem for years now, but as the problem continued to grow, it became not only a job for local and state but federal authorities as well.

"We've been in touch with the D.E.A. and knew that the indictments were coming down and knew where the people that they were actually looking at were staying and working," says Wes Baxter, a Craighead County Deputy Sheriff who assisted in the investigation.

It's an on-going federal drug investigation. Already this year, 13 people from Region 8 have been arrested. As of Monday, 4 more locals were added to the list.

In Jonesboro, 2 arrests were made: 32 year old Joe Don Schulte and 37 year old Jack Edward Jones. 28 year old David Stanford Forrester was arrested in Wynne and 46 year old Willard Leo Spray was arrested in Trumann.

"They're part of this indictment that's been going on for several months now, this investigation that's handled by the D.E.A. The charges that they're actually arrested for is the conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine," says Baxter.

Local law enforcement agencies, along with the local drug task force assisted the D.E.A. with this investigation, from reporting certain individuals, to tracking them down, and finally assisting in their arrests. But this large-scale drug trafficking ring hasn't ended yet.

"We anticipate it to go on for several more months and actually anticipate more arrests. It was a good effort with all local law enforcement in this area. Everyone worked really well together and we were able to take these 4 people into custody without an incident," says Baxter.
