Lt. Governor Candidates Argue over Teacher Salaries, Lottery

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Democatic lieutenant governor nominee Bill Halter and Republican rival Jim Holt exchanged barbs over each other's response to improving public schools.

Halter's campaign manager criticized Holt, a state senator, for voting against pay raises for teachers.  The proposal passed and was signed into law during a special session earlier this year.

Holt criticized Halter for supporting a lottery for education improvements, describing the proposal as the only idea Halter has come up with to strengthen Arkansas schools.  Holt's spokesman says Halter is taking the senator's votes out of context.
