Plans for First Gubernatorial Debate Finalized

SEPTEMBER 13, 2006 - Posted at 11:00 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - The Student Government Association at Arkansas State University will sponsor the first of three gubernatorial debates for this election season on Monday, September 18 on the ASU campus.  The one-hour debate will begin at 7 p.m., and will take place in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center.

K8 News will televise the debate on a tape-delay basis, from 9 to 10 p.m.  K8 News anchor Diana Davis will serve as the event's moderator.  The debate will be carried live via streaming video on KAIT8.com.  In addition, KASU radio will also broadcast the debate live.

The debate will feature Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Beebe and Republican nominee Asa Hutchinson.

Two-thirds of the reserved seat tickets will be allocated equally between the two campaigns, with the balance given to ASU students and faculty on a first-come, first-served basis.  There is no admission fee, but a ticket is required.  Students and faculty with a valid ID may pick up tickets starting Thursday (Sept. 14) at the Campus Information office in the Student Union.
