LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former Senator Dale Bumpers has called the current time an "age of darkness," citing a fear of terrorism and accusing Republicans of having warped priorities and bad judgement.
Bumpers said yesterday that people want to believe in their president. But he says the country is fighting a "war nobody believes should be fought" and that President Bush was wrong about the reasons he gave for going to war.
Club meetings are usually off the record but Bumpers gave permission to be quoted.
State Republican Party Chairman Clint Reed said later that Bumpers was misguided. Reed says Bush was correct in his approach to the war on terror.
