Arkansas Colleges Participate in Study of College Freshmen

SEPTEMBER 18, 2006 - Posted at 7:55 a.m. CDT

HELENA - WEST HELENA, AR - Phillips Community College in eastern Arkansas is joining three other colleges in the state in a national year-long project to evaluate and improve the overall experience of first-year college students.

Pulaski Technical College, Rich Mountain Community College, and Cossatot Community College also are among the 35 institutions nationwide that have been chosen for the project.  The colleges will study their effectiveness in recruiting, orienting, advising, and teaching new students.

The Policy Center on the First Year of College is overseeing the project.  The center maintains that new students who are successfully integrated into college life are much more likely to succeed.
