Abducted Newborn Found Alive; Woman Arrested

SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 - Posted at 8:06 a.m. CDT

UNION, Mo. (AP) - A newborn baby is back with her parents, just

days after she was abducted and her mother was slashed. Officials

say a woman who recently miscarried is under arrest.

A doctor at St. John's Hospital in Washington, Missouri, says

eleven-day-old Abby Woods is in excellent condition.

The F-B-I identifies the suspect as Shannon Beck, who lives a

few miles from the home of the mother and baby.

The case broke when Beck's sister-in-law contacted authorities.

They say Beck had been pregnant but apparently miscarried shortly

before her own child was to be born.

The child's mother told police Friday a woman entered her rural

home, attacked her with a knife, and stole the child, who was a

week old at the time.
