ABC Says 'No' to El Chico Liquor Permit

SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 - Posted at 4:08 p.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Board of Directors of the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission this afternoon denied El Chico's request for a private club liquor permit at an appeal hearing.

The request was denied on a 3-1 vote, with the board chairman citing "concerns with the location" of El Chico's, saying that other liquor permits that have been awarded in the city have been more evenly disbursed throughout Jonesboro.  O'Charley's, which is located across Parker Road from El Chico's, was awarded one of the most recent liquor permits.

The board also cited petitions with more than 3,000 signatures opposing the request, as well as letters of opposition from Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann, Craighead County Judge Dale Haas, and 2nd Judicial District Prosecutor Brent Davis.

K8 News will have more information on the hearing tonight at 10 on K8 News Nightbeat.
