Education Officials Launch Effort to Promote Tougher Classes

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas education officials said yesterday that they will promote a more rigorous high school curriculum as necessary for all graduates, whether they go to college or directly into the workforce.

Arkansas Education Commissioner Ken James and Governor Mike Huckabee unveiled a series of television commercials, as well as radio ads and posters, they will use to promote the state-mandated Smart Core curriculum.

Huckabee said it was "immoral" to not enroll high school students in the more rigorous classes.

The campaign comes as education officials and legislators say they're concerned about the number of parents opting to place their children in easier high school courses.
