JONESBORO, AR - Autumn officially begins Saturday, and with it comes a variety of activities to enjoy the first fall weekend in Region 8.
In Randolph County, Pocahontas will host the first of three straight weekends celebrating its sesquicentennial. This weekend will observe the town's history in the Civil War era, with a number of events planned throughout the community on both Saturday and Sunday, including a Civil War battle re-enactment at 2 p.m. at the Baltz Field Riverfront Park.
In Jonesboro, Saturday will mark the final day of the Northeast Arkansas District Fair.
The Democratic Party of Mississippi County will sponsor the Victory 2006 Caravan Tour of Democratic elected officials and politicians, including 1st District Congressman Marion Berry. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a breakfast at the party headquarters in Blytheville. The caravan will then participate in a parade in Dell before visiting the chili cook-off contest in Manila at approximately 11:30. Other stops include Leachville, Keiser, and Wilson.
In Cross County, Village Creek State Park will host a workshop campfire cooking for kids, beginning at 11 a.m.
Paragould will host the Business and Professional Women's Region 11 Fall Conference, at the Paragould Country Club. The event begins at 9 a.m.
Paragould will also be the site of the Children's Home Homecoming Celebration, beginning at 10 a.m.
