PINE BLUFF, AR - A man serving a life sentence without parole for killing his girlfriend's eight-year-old son died today of apparent natural causes.

The state Correction Department says 50-year-old Carl Dale Branstetter died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at 8:05 a.m. Friday.

Branstetter was convicted of capital murder in May 2000 in Garland County for causing the death of Jonathon Nuttle.  The child died June 27, 1999, four days after he was brought to a hospital with severe head trauma.
