Funeral Set Today for Young Firefighter Lost in Weekend Flooding

SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 - Posted at 7:35 a.m. CDT

WILLIFORD, AR - A firefighter funeral is planned today for a 16-year-old junior firefighter who died in flood waters Saturday when the car he was in was swept off a low-water bridge in Sharp County.

Christopher Allen Bodkins is remembered for his desire to help others.  He died at Martin Creek near Williford.  He had been with his stepfather and a friend trying to reach a family to help them get to higher ground.

Bodkins' funeral will be at the Williford High School Gymnasium.  Burial will be in Cossey Family Cemetery at Williford.  Firefighters will serve as an honor guard, and the casket will be transported from the gym to the cemetery on a fire truck.  Special graveside services, including a 21-gun salute, will be held.
