Kennett, West Plains Among Ten Missouri Cities Chosen for DREAM Initiative

SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 - Posted at 7:59 a.m. CDT

ST. LOUIS, MO - Kennett and West Plains are two of ten Missouri communities that have been selected for a new downtown revitalization initiative.

The ten were selected from nearly 100 applicants.  The others include Cape Girardeau, Excelsior Springs, Hannibal, Hermann, Neosho, Sedalia, St. Joseph and Washington.

This is the first year for the governor's DREAM (Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance for Missouri) initiative.

State spokesman Greg Ochoa says the communities will get training and technical assistance on everything from historic preservation to job creation.  All applicants will be invited to seminars on revitalizing downtowns.

Blunt made the announcement in St. Louis at the Governor's annual Conference on Economic Development.
