Carnahan Orders Cape Man to Cease Suspected Fraudulent Activities

SEPTEMBER 28, 2006 - Posted at 4:21 p.m. CDT

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's Commissioner of Securities has issued a cease & desist order against a Cape Girardeau man, and several related companies in connection with the fraudulent sale of more than $250,000 in unregistered securities to a man recovering from a tragic accident.

The order states that Calvin Bird convinced a Missouri resident to invest $260,000 in a fraudulent real estate investment.  The investor's money came from a personal injury settlement related to a work accident that left him with burns over 80 percent of his body.

Carnahan said Bird and his companies committed "multiple violations of making untrue statements in connection with those sales."
