C-130 Crew from LRAFB Gets Scare While in Skies over Iraq

OCTOBER 4, 2006 - Posted at 7:59 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A C-130 Hercules crew out of Little Rock Air Force Base had a scary ending on a trip from Fallujah to Balad, Iraq, where the crew is based while overseas.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports in today's editions that on the Monday flight, the aircraft powered up and could not be controlled.

The plane had dropped off a group of U.S. senators at an airfield, including Democrat Mark Pryor from Arkansas.  Still aboard were the crew, two security forces airmen, and a team of journalists.  The plane landed safely, but only after smoke began to fill the cargo bay.

Crew members were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
