Outside Money Fueling Missouri Senate Race

OCTOBER 4, 2006 - Posted at 8:05 a.m. CDT

WASHINGTON - Money from outside groups is pouring into Missouri's U.S. Senate race.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has spent $1.4 million on TV ads to boost state Auditor Claire McCaskill and slam her opponent, Republican Senator Jim Talent.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has spent $2.3 million for ads, surveys and other expenses in the last two weeks.

Most of the outside money pays for negative ads.

Millions more will be spent until November 7 as national political parties try to influence the race.

A poll conducted last week found Talent and McCaskill each getting 43 percent support, with 13 percent undecided.
