Mississippi County Farmer Killed When Run Over by Cotton Picker

OCTOBER 4, 2006 - Posted at 12:03 p.m. CDT

GOSNELL, AR - A Mississippi County farmer was killed yesterday when he was apparently ran over by his own cotton picker.

Sheriff Leroy Meadows says his deputies were called to an area off East County Road 246 and Arkansas 151 near the Promise Land community at 1:55 p.m.   Meadows says 63-year-old Milford Garrett of Gosnell had been working to remove excess cotton from the cotton picker's header when the machine started to move, and then ran over him.

Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Mike Godsey.
