DONIPHAN, MO - Doniphan and Ripley County will be the site of the first Ozark Regional Timberfest, which begins this morning and will continue through Saturday evening.

Billed as a celebration of southern Missouri's "timber heritage," the event will feature participants from more than 15 counties at the Ripley County Fairgrounds in what officials describe as a "historical, educational and competitive" festival.

Several agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, Missouri Department of Conservation, National Park Service, Missouri Forest Products Association, Missouri and National Farmer's Union and the Eastern Ozarks Forestry Council will help offer the public historical, educational and entertaining venues regarding the impact of the timber industries in the southern Missouri Ozarks.

Activities include a draft horse pull, live music, a logging camp, a rail splitting competition and a logger's relay.
