School Bus Overturns in Lawrence County

OCTOBER 10, 2006 - Posted at 4:18 p.m. CDT, updated at 4:52 p.m. CDT

LYNN, AR - Authorities in Lawrence County are responding to a school bus accident this afternoon near Lynn.

A spokesman with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department would not confirm or deny the report, but other sources in Lawrence County say the accident occured around 4 p.m. on Highway 117, between Black Rock and Lynn.  It is believed the bus belongs to the Hillcrest School District, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Police scanner traffic indicates that the bus has overturned and there are "entrapments" and injuries.  Other sources say helicopter ambulances are en route to the scene, and some injured are being taken to the Randolph County Medical Center in Pocahontas.  The extent of the injuries are not yet known.

The accident follows a minor school bus accident yesterday in rural Greene County, and another minor bus wreck this morning in Paragould.  Another school bus wreck occured Friday afternoon in Earle.

K8 News has a crew en route to the site and will have more information as it becomes available.
