This Saturday, at Craighead Forest Park, men, women, boys and girls will run and walk in an effort to fight cancer here in Region 8. The 4th annual K8-8K kicks off Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and this year we have partnered with the Jonesboro Parks and Rec Dept to launch a second race... the Fergus Snoddy Half Marathon.
Anyone can develop cancer. In 2006 nearly 1 million 4 hundred thousand new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed. And this year over 560,000 are expected to die of cancer... more than 1,500 people each day.
Those numbers are staggering... and that is why we need you to come out this weekend to help us raise money to continue funding research and treatment. The 5 year survival rate for all diagnosed cancers is 65%... that is up from 50% in 1976... so we are making progress in fighting this disease.
Let's keep the fight going and make that survival number continue to increase. You can run, walk, stroll or crawl... it doesn't matter... just be a part of this great cause.
You can register for the K8-8K or Fergus Snoddy Half Marathon this Friday at the Holiday Inn in Jonesboro from noon until 9 p.m.
