Huckabee "Very Seriously" Considering White House Bid

OCTOBER 13, 2006 - Posted at 8:04 a.m. CDT

NORMAN, AR - Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is in Oklahoma to help Republican candidates, and says he's still considering a run for president.

Huckabee wrapped a two-day swing through Oklahoma yesterday and said at a fundraiser in Norman that he's "very seriously" considering a run for the White House in 2008.

Recent polls show the Republican Party is losing support in the aftermath of the resignation of former Congressman Mark Foley over lurid e-mails and instant messages to pages.

But Huckabee says the party's problems go beyond Foley.  He says the GOP is getting too far from its message of lower taxes and fiscal conservatism and must get back to basics.

Huckabee says he's been to about two dozen states to help campaign for local Republican candidates.
