Southern Missouri Experiencing Flooding Today

OCTOBER 16, 2006 - Posted at 12:36 p.m. CDT

SPRINGFIELD, MO - The National Weather Service in Springfield (MO) has issued a flash flood warning for two Region 8 counties in south-central Missouri...Howell and Oregon counties.  The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.

At 12:18 p.m., local law enforcement officials reported several cars washed off Highway 142 near Lanton, or near PP highway.  Although rainfall intensity remains low with rates of one-quarter to one-half inch per hour, the accumalative effect of rainfall since last night has caused flooding to occur.  An additional one-half inch of rainfall is likely through 6 p.m., which will likely cause additional rises along Highway 142 and near low-water crossings and flood-prone areas of the region.

Do not drive vehicles into areas where water is covering the road, as water depth may be too great to allow your vehicle to cross safely.
