Son-in-Law of Mike Beebe's Wife Dies in Apparent Suicide

OCTOBER 25, 2006 - Posted at 7:27 a.m. CDT

SEARCY, AR - Authorities say the son-in-law of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Beebe's wife died in an apparent suicide yesterday after police tried to arrest him.

Police say 39-year-old Anthony Taylor died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Searcy's Hampton Inn.

Searcy police say that after Taylor did not answer an officer's calls, police forced their way into his hotel room and found his body.  The report said Taylor made "frequent suicide threats."

Police say Taylor was wanted on several misdemeanor charges, stemming chiefly from domestic complaints.

Taylor's wife, Tammy, is Ginger Beebe's daughter from a previous marriage.

Beebe, Arkansas' attorney general, faces Republican nominee Asa Hutchinson in the November 7 election.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Beebe said his family is grateful for the support and prayers from people across the state.
