LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A new poll shows Democrat Mike Beebe with a wide lead over Republican Asa Hutchinson, with less than two weeks to go before the governor's election.
Results of the Arkansas Poll released today by the University of Arkansas show that 51 percent of likely voters say they would cast a ballot for Beebe and 38 percent say they'd vote for Hutchinson. Among those who said they were likely to vote -- 594 respondents -- the margin of error was plus or minus four percentage points.
With an overall sample of 761 completed surveys out of more than 6,000 Arkansans called between October Eighth and October 17th, the survey's overall margin of error was plus or minus three-and-a-half percentage points.
The annual poll also showed overwhelming suport for a ballot measure to allow charitable bingo in the state and for a $250 million bond package for higher education facilities.
The Arkansas Poll is an annual survey directed by Janine Parry, an associate professor of political science at the university's flagship campus at Fayetteville.
