Harrison Post Office to be Named for Long-Time Congressman

OCTOBER 26, 2006 - Posted at 7:53 a.m. CDT

HARRISON, Ark. (AP) - The U-S Postal Service says the Harrison post office will be renamed to honor Harrison native and longtime congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt.

A news release from the postal service yesterday said the Harrison post office will officially be dedicated tomorrow morning as the John Paul Hammerschmidt Building.

Congressman John Boozman, a Republican who holds Hammerschmidt's former seat, proposed a bill to rename the postal facility. Hammerschmidt served in the U.S. House from 1967 until he retired in 1993. He still serves on various presidential ad-hoc committees.
