Today's Search for Memphis Manatee Coming Up Empty So Far

MEMPHIS, TN - Biologists and game officials continued to search for a wayward manatee this afternoon in Memphis.

A 20-foot boat from Sea World is cruising the Wolf River Harbor with a net ready to deploy when the animal is seen again.  The harbor is a long chute with one open end between Mud Island and downtown Memphis.

Searchers spotted the manatee yesterday afternoon, but weren't yet in position to capture it.

A Memphis police helicopter is making passes over the harbor and boats from the city, the Coast Guard and TWRA are being used in the search.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife biologist Nicole Adiemy says the manatee will be taken to SeaWorld Adventure Park in Orlando, Florida, before being released.
