16 Arkansas Highway Projects on Hold until Federal Money Available

OCTOBER 30, 2006 - Posted at 7:42 a.m.

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Congress hasn't yet passed federal funding for highway projects around the country this fiscal year. That means work on 16 projects in Arkansas has stalled.

The Arkansas Highway Commission has canceled its bid opening scheduled for November 15th.

Contracts for the projects -- worth an estimated $94 million -- will be awarded when the money becomes available.

The projects include two on Highway 71 near Texarkana worth an estimated $45 million  and another on the Interstate 530 connector in Lincoln County.

Congress has not passed the Transportation Appropriations Act for fiscal 2007, which began October First, but passed a continuing resolution that provides limited funding.
