Write-In Candidate for Governor Claims He was Attacked by Campaign Helpers

OCTOBER 30, 2006 - Posted at 7:51 a.m.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - An attack on a man campaigning as a write-in candidate for governor is being investigated by police at Fort Smith. Police are investigating because this attack was the physical kind, not a political assault.

Police say 68-year-old Richard E. Grace says two men who were helping him hand out fliers attacked and robbed him. He says it happened near a hotel where he was staying.

Investigators say Grace told them one of the men grabbed him from behind and the other man pulled money from his front pocket and then punched him. Police have not released the names of any suspects.
