Huckabee: Voters Should Research Campaign Ad Claims

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Governor Huckabee is urging voters to do their own research into negative ads in this year's gubernatorial race. He said voters shouldn't have to depend on campaigns firing shots at each other.

Huckabee has appeared in television commercials supporting Republican Asa Hutchinson. But he said during his radio show today that he wanted to ``play it straight'' after callers asked about a Statehouse scandal from the 1990s.

A recent ad aimed at Democrat Mike Beebe attempts to link him to disgraced former Senator Nick Wilson, who was convicted of racketeering. An ad aimed at Hutchinson tries to blame him for an influx of illegal aliens during his tenure at the Department of Homeland Security.

Huckabee said there was plenty of information available about Wilson. He urged voters not to take the word of either campaign, but instead to do a bit of research in that available information.
