KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ The federal government said today that it wants Missouri to reconsider its determination that 99 waterways were not suitable for recreational use.
In March, the state designated about 36-hundred stream segments and all of its 400 lakes suitable for recreational use based on water quality standards. The state said another 141 other bodies of water did not meet recreational use standards.
But in a letter dated yesterday, the E-P-A told the state Department of Natural Resources that 99 of those 141 bodies of water were suitable for recreational use.
It says Missouri has not provided enough information to show recreational uses are not attainable or conclude that recreational uses are not attainable.
