Talent, McCaskill Racing Toward Finish of Tough Campaign

NOVEMBER 6, 2006 - Posted at 7:49 a.m. CST

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Republican Senator Jim Talent and his Democratic challenger, state Auditor Claire McCaskill, are headed into the home stretch of their race.

McCaskill pulled out the Democratic star power at a rally yesterday in St. Louis, with Illinois Senator Barack Obama drawing the loudest cheers.

Meanwhile, Talent spent yesterday barnstorming through rural Missouri, holding rallies in small towns for support he said will be critical on Election Day.

Talent says a big turnout in the rural areas would make the race against Claire McCaskill easier on him.

The latest poll shows the race remains virtually tied, with McCaskill supported by 46 percent of likely voters, Talent supported by 45 percent and seven percent undecided.
