JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Attorney General Jay Nixon is criticizing the Gaming Commission's plan to take over a Caruthersville casino.
The commission voted unanimously last week to temporarily take control of the Casino Aztar, which is in the process of being sold.
Executive director Gene McNary says the unusual move is necessary to save jobs, as well as the taxes and fees paid by the casino.
Nixon says the takeover would put the Gaming Commission in the conflicting roles of trying to make money at a casino while also trying to regulate it.
He says the decision is "unprecedented interference in the private sector."
