Future Looks Bleak for Memphis Pyramid

MEMPHIS, TN - There's a move to do one last event at the Pyramid in Memphis.

The glass-sheathed arena had been a vital part of the city, beginning in 1991 until the FedEx Forum opened in 2004.

The Forum has a no-compete clause, which means no big shows can be put into the Pyramid.  Still, Memphis Grizzlies business operations president Andy Dolich says the team, as Forum operators, would have no problem with a final Pyramid blowout.

The long-time operators of the Pyramid say a concert or other major event is being mulled for February.

After that, the city and Shelby County plan to mothball the building as a moneysaving move.

Last February, Bass Pro Shops said it wanted to open a sporting goods megastore in the Pyramid, but there's been little progress toward a contract.
