Huckabee will Wait to Make Decision on Political Future

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Governor Huckabee says the results of the midterm election shows Republicans have been damaged by scandals involving the national party and by dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq. Huckabee says the vote carries a clear message that Americans want a change.

The governor says the votes Republicans received in statewide races reflected the base GOP vote in the state, and shows that the party was unable to sway independent voters to their side as successfully as they had in the past.

Huckabee has not met with Governor-elect Mike Beebe yet, but hopes to talk with him in the coming days about the transition. He says he believes Beebe will be a good governor.

Huckabee also says he does not plan to make a decision on whether to run for president before the end of his term in January. He will likely decide within the first couple of months of leaving office.
