NOVEMBER 9, 2006 - Posted at 4:38 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Craighead County is now home to one of the finest public health units in the state.

An open house was held this afternoon at the new facility on East Washington Avenue in Jonesboro to celebrate the opening of the 19,000-square-foot facility that will house not only the county health unit, but also the county's agriculgure extension service.

The funds for the facility were made possible through a joint effort from the county, state lawmakers, St. Bernard's Medical Center and the city of Jonesboro.  "It's a lot of people's efforts that have come together," said Craighead County Judge Dale Haas.  "This thing will be something that will help our children's children in the future, help our families grow and have prosperity for our local economy.  We're just tickled.  It's a good day to be in Craighead County."

Today also marked the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility, that opened to the public on September 18.
