Wife of Slain Activitist will Speak at SeMo King Dinner

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - The widow of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers will deliver the keynote speech for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration dinner in January at Southeast Missouri State University.

Myrlie Evers-Williams has carried on Medgar Evers' work since he was slain in 1963.

She founded the Medgar Evers Institution to promote education, training and economic development.  In the late 1990s, she became the third woman to lead the National Associatoin for the Advancement of Colored People.

The event will be January 17 at the Show Me Center.

Tickets go on sale December 1 for $15.
