JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Since proposing an innovative approach to improving 800 of the state's most worn-out bridges, the Missouri Dept. of Transportation has heard from several groups of contractors eager to take on the ambitious project.

Five contractor teams have asked MoDot to be considered for the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will bring most of Missouri's worst bridges up to good condition over a five-year period.

"This is an extremely aggressive proposal, and I'm thrilled we've received such strong interest from contractors," said MoDOT director Pete Rahn.  "This proves the Safe & Sound program is feasible; now we need to find out if it's affordable."
