JONESBORO, AR -- It's time again for the "Canned Goods for Good Neighbors" food drive in Region 8.

With rising costs for everything this past year a larger burden is being put on local food pantries in Region 8.

"Our requests for food boxes is up 55% this year.  So, as fast as the food is coming in its going right back out," said Jamie Collins of the Mission Outreach Food Pantry in Paragould.

This is the third year for the "Canned Goods for Good Neighbors" food drive.

"The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas serves 12 counties in northeast Arkansas, so when we do a regional food drive its kind of hard to find convenient drop off locations. Bancorpsouth has stepped up to the plate to organize this," said Christie Jordan of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.

"Bancorpsouth saw the need in northeast Arkansas to help coordinate the effort of a wonderful grassroots campaign to collect food," said Joe Williams of Bancorpsouth.

Donation requests during the holiday season include canned goods such as vegetables, canned meats, and fruit.  Anything non-perishable is accepted.

"Everybody has canned goods at home that they don't need that are still in date.  They can look through those and bring those to any Bancorpsouth location," said Williams.

The "Canned goods for Good Neighbors" food drive will start the day after Thanksgiving and will end on Friday, December 15th.
