IRS Has Refunds for at Least 64 Region 8 Residents

NOVEMBER 16, 2006 - Posted at 3:31 p.m. CST

WASHINGTON - An average refund of $916.16 is waiting for 28 Craighead County taxpayers whose refund checks have been returned to the Internal Revenue Service as undeliverable.

Nationwide, those numbers break down to an average refund of $963 for 95,746 taxpayers.  The checks, worth a total of $92.2 million, can be claimed as soon as their owners update their addresses with the IRS.  In some cases, a taxpayer has more than one check waiting.

Taxpayers can use the "Where's My Refund?" feature on the home page of the IRS.gov Website to learn the status of their refunds.  To use it, a taxpayer must enter a Social Security number, filing status, and the refund amount shown on the taxpayer's 2005 return.

Taxpayers can access a telephone version of "Where's My Refund?" by calling 1-800-829-1954.

In Craighead County, 28 taxpayers are due a total of $25,652.54, for an average refund of $916.16.  In Crittenden County, 14 taxpayers are due a total of $8,049.03.  Twelve taxpayers in Independence County are due a total of $6,594.  And in White County, 10 taxpayers are due a total of $3,852.86.

By law, the IRS cannot reveal figures for counties that have less than ten undelivered refunds.
