State's Education Chief Says He Expects to Stay on Board after Beebe Takes Reigns of State Government

NOVEMBER 20, 2006 - Posted at 7:41 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - State Education Commissioner Ken James says he and Governor-Elect Mike Beebe have talked, and he expects to continue as Arkansas' top education official.  James says Beebe is focused on the school standards that James has helped implement and wants the state to continue to raise levels of achievement, so he and Beebe are definitely on the same page.

Department of Finance and Administration head Richard Weiss, widely viewed as also likely to keep his job under Beebe, is more coy when asked his prospects for the future.  Weiss says that, if Beebe wants his services here, he would be honored to continue in his job, but he doesn't want to speculate about what Beebe might do.
