LOCUST GROVE, Ark. (AP) _ A Locust Grove man wanted for assault
and battery was found dead in his home with a head injury.
Independence County Sheriff Keith Bowers says deputies found
60-year-old James Dickie Swaim lying in the doorway of his kitchen
Tuesday. Family members had called the sheriff's office after
checking on Swaim. The sheriff says there were no signs of forced
The assault and battery charges stemmed from a September 29th
incident at Swaim's house in which a man named Chad Blevins was
injured. Blevins initially told authorities he hurt himself when he
fell. But the staff at the hospital where Blevins was treated said
he had multiple injuries to his head, face and body and had a
broken leg. Blevins later told investigators that he and Swaim
argued over some whiskey and Swaim hit him in the head and beat him
with a club.
