Girl Dies from Injuries After Accident at Church

NOVEMBER 27, 2006 - Posted at 7:35 a.m. CST

EL DORADO, AR - A seven-year-old girl has died from injuries she sustained a week before when she was struck in a church parking lot by an 88-year-old woman.

Alexandria Zhen Yan A. Weng and Deborah Smith were struck while on a parking lot at the College Avenue Church of Christ on November 19.  Authorities say Alexandria suffered a head injury and died Friday night at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Smith was treated at a hospital for moderate injuries.

The driver, Martha Garrison, was cited after the accident with careless and prohibited driving.  Police say Garrison told them she accidentally shifted into reverse instead of drive, then accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.
