Jonesboro Democrat Proposes Bill Requiring 30-Minute Wait after Traffic Accident

NOVEMBER 29, 2006 - Posted at 7:47 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Legislation proposed by Representative Chris Thyer would require drivers involved in traffic accidents to remain at the scene for at least half-an-hour.

Thyer, a Jonesboro Democrat, says the intent is to keep people at the scene in case a law officer is on the way.

Thyer says current law requires a driver in a crash to render aid but does not place a time limit on how long the motorist has to stay at the scene.
