LITTLE ROCK (AP) - An Arkansas state lawmaker wants crime to pay just a little bit more into state coffers.
A bill filed by Rep. Bill Sample, (R-Hot Springs), would charge anyone convicted of a felony and some misdemeanor crimes a $20 booking and administration fee. Sample says the money raised by the fee would help counties pay for jail expenses. Across the state, county jails are squeezed by a lack of space in state penitentiaries.
