Growth in North Jonesboro

December 6, 2006 -- Posted at 5:30 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR -- A drive through North Jonesboro looks a little different than it used to. New developments are popping up all over.

"It's just a booming area.  Everyone's moving this way," said building supervisor Jerry Moore.

North Jonesboro is the home of several new subdivisions.

"We've been fortunate in Arkansas along with a couple other states in that we've seen steady growth," said realtor Ray Pierson.

In fact, Arkansas has seen a growth of 17% over the past year.  In the current subdivisions, contractors continue to clear land for more homes.

There's a lot of construction going on in North Jonesboro, but there are also homes ready for purchase like these on the end of Sandino drive.

One of the biggest draws for buyers in North Jonesboro is the price of the homes.

"Everybody has different business locations where they work and a lot of people buy these priced ranged homes for students," said Pierson.

On North Patrick Street the first stage of The Villas of Jonesboro went up about two years ago.

"There's not enough houses for the people who are moving into this area, so they're building phase two of the apartment complex and have the opportunity for phase three behind it," said Moore.

And that's good news for people looking at more affordable housing.
