Arkansas Food Banks to Conduct Food Drive for the Hungry

DECEMBER 11, 2006 - Posted at 3:11 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Hunger Alliance says nearly 300,000 Arkansans suffer from hunger.  As the holiday season continues, the alliance will hold a statewide food drive to distribute food to those in need.

The Alliance network will collect food and cash donations at 67 sites across the state for their second annual "Spirit of Giving" drive beginning Wednesday.  The drive will last through December 20.

Donated food will stay in local communities for distribution.  Donations can be made at any U.S. Bank branch in Arkansas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has ranked Arkansas as having the third-highest incidence of hunger in the nation.
