JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro Public Schools superintendent Steve Singleton unexpectedly submitted his resignation to the district's board of education last night, according to a published report.

Singleton told board members he plans to resign his position with the district in June, after the current academic year.  He read a letter of resignation to the board following a brief executive session that was called to discuss personnel matters.  Singleton took over as Jonesboro superintendent in 2004, replacing longtime superintendent Dr. Phil Beasley.

Singleton reportedly told board members that he takes responsibility for any mistakes made in the past two unsuccessful attempts to pass a millage increase.
