SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - Workers at a Kohler plant in Searcy are off the job after failing to reach a contract with management.

The employees on strike at midnight Friday after talks broke down.

Local union official David Smith says members rejected a proposed contract on Friday. At issue are health-insurance related costs, attendance policy and the company's ability to hire subcontractors.

In a prepared statement, company says no further contract talks are scheduled and that the plant is idle. The factory produces stainless steel sinks.

Smith said workers are getting insurance from the union and are receiving strike pay.
