Huckabee Could Prove Fundraising Mettle with Gala

DECEMBER 15, 2006 - Posted at 7:28 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Republican Governor Huckabee probably wouldn't mind emulating one of his Democratic predecessors in at least one respect. In December 1991, then-Governor Bill Clinton boosted his presidential profile and fundraising clout with a Little Rock event that raised a million dollars for his upcoming presidential campaign.

Tomorrow, Huckabee's political action committee will hold a fundraiser at the Statehouse Convention Center, even as Huckabee considers the possibility of entering the 2008 presidential race.

Tickets are $500 each, and backers can also buy sponsorships of up to $100,000. The event is a test of whether Huckabee can raise money for a run for president. However, Huckabee says the evening is simply to support his PAC.

Huckabee has not announced whether he will run for president. He says he'll announce a decision after he leaves office on January 9.
