Autopsy Shows Marion County Rape Suspect Likely Drowned

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) - An autopsy shows a man accused of kidnapping and rape likely drowned in the White River. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the body on December 14th was likely that of 30-year-old Larry Otis Gebhart. However, officials are waiting on D-N-A and toxicology tests to confirm the body's identity.

Gebhart was charged with kidnapping and rape after a 38-year-old Cotter woman reported the attack to authorities on November 6th. The woman said she was held at gunpoint. The night of the report, law enforcement officers spotted Gebhart, who fled from his pickup truck off a rural road in Marion County. Authorities launched a search that lasted six hours near the White River, but could not find him. Gebhart's badly decomposed body was found lying in debris next to a private boat dock near Cartney. A wallet on the body had a photo identification with Gebhart's name.
